It’s over now, but for six years I had an emotionally intimate relationship with my best friend, Rachel. We shared confidences and knew everything about one another’s lives. It wasn’t anything sexual, but I suppose it was quite romantic, if romance is about sharing the heightened moments of personal drama.
She is 10 years older than me, but we became friends six years ago when the circumstances of our lives were very similar. We were both still married when we met at a lunch party of a mutual friend.
